Tyson Svoboda
Boys Head Lacrosse Coach

Coach Svoboda is currently in his second season as Head Boys Lacrosse Coach at Gretna High
School. Prior to Gretna he was an Assistant Boys Lacrosse Coach at his alma mater Millard West
High School from 2018-21. Svoboda also served as the Co-Offensive Coordinator at the
University of Nebraska-Lincoln (MCLA) during the 2017-18 season. He has also been involved in
the club lacrosse scene in Nebraska coaching U17 teams with Nebraska Prime and True
Lacrosse Nebraska from 2016-19.


Prior to coaching locally in Omaha, Svoboda spent the 2013-17 seasons as an Attackman at the
University of Dubuque (NCAA DIII) in Dubuque, IA. While at UD, he started every game (54) in
the school’s first four years as an NCAA program. Also, going on to be the first player in
program history to record 100 points in a career. Currently sitting at third all-time in career
goals (71), fifth all-time in career points (101), and seventh all-time in assists (30). He was
awarded the team's offensive MVP in the 2015-16 season and was the team's first recipient of
the “Shield & Spear” award following the 2016-17 season for career achievements. Svoboda
was a team captain three of his four years, and a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)
representative on campus. His Senior class went on to post the school’s first winning record in
its young history with a 10-7 record in 2016-17.


Currently Svoboda plays forward for the Omaha Rebels (BLL) a national semi-professional box
lacrosse team in Omaha, NE. Prior box lacrosse experience includes runs with the Aksarben
Stampede (IBLA) & Kansas City Smoke (GPBLL). He has also competed internationally with the
Bratislava Bats (SVK) in the 2018 Aleš Hrebeský Memorial Tournament in Prague, Czech
Republic. Where Bratislava posted its best finish in team history, eighth out of twenty-four
teams. Nationally Svoboda has competed with Music City Lacrosse Club based in Nashville, TN.
In 2019 he joined the club and competed in a Music City host tournament, as well as the 2019
LAXNAI North American invitational in Syracuse, NY.


Svoboda graduated from the University of Dubuque in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in
Computer Graphics & Interactive Media. He is currently based in Omaha, NE as a Graphic
Designer with Berkshire Hathaway-Home Services Ambassador Real Estate.

Matt Shrader
Boys Asst. Lacrosse Coach
Gretna Public Schools Club Sponsor

Coach Shrader will be entering his first year coaching Lacrosse at Gretna High School.  Prior to this year he coached Baseball at the high school level at Gretna High for the last 7 years and 2 years in Fremont.  He has also coached football for the last 7 years at Gretna High and this year at Gretna East.  He coached the Defensive Backs for the State Championship ('21) and State Runner Up ('22) teams at Gretna.  Matt also teaches 8th grade math at Aspen Creek Middle School.  

 

He lives in Gretna with his wife Megan.  She is an RN but has recently taken a job working in child care at The Little Red School House.  Matt and Megan have 2 children,  Vivian and Georgio.

Joe Burbach

Boys Asst. Lacrosse Coach

  • Rockhurst University

Coach Burbach is entering his first season as the Assistant Boys Lacrosse Coach with Gretna High School. He brings with him 4 years of high school and 4 years of collegiate lacrosse experience. Burbach spent the 2015-2018 seasons at Rockhurst University (NCAA DII) in Kansas City, Missouri. While at Rockhurst, he was a 3-year starter at close defense and a 2-year captain. He collected 80 ground balls and forced 41 turnovers. Rockhurst went 42-21 over the 4 years Burbach spent there. Rockhurst also received its first national Top-20 (‘17) and Top-15 (‘18) rankings since the program’s inception in 2013. 

 

Currently, Burbach plays defense for the Omaha Rebels (BLL), a semi-professional box lacrosse team in Omaha, NE. He is in his second year with the Rebels, and previously played defense for 2 years with the Ralston Regals (IBLA). 

 

Burbach graduated from Rockhurst University in 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and a minor in Psychology. He graduated from University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2020 with a Master’s Degree in Health and Kinesiology. He is currently serving as the Head Performance Coach at Athletes’ Training Center.
